Why are people religious?

Why do people have religions? I understand different beliefs and moral values, but why whole religions? And where did they come from? And if you are willing to answer this question, try to make it a real answer and not something like "Because God told us this religion" etc.

Did you just ask a question about religion that was a little more crude in it's wording and got taken down because of community guidelines?? If so I literally wrote a huge answer getting into the depth of all of it and when I went to hit submit it said you're question was taken down. If you are that person please message me! If not I still have an answer for you and given that I am not religious and never have been but am increasingly spiritual, I feel I am a good person for you to talk to about such things because I believe that my standpoint is impartial.

Contrary to most Christian religions, the Bible teaches us how to be Christians.

    That's it. Christians.

The Bible also teaches us the the Holy Spirit will come to guide us and show us the Way.

Now, some groups of people think they have the only right way, and they try to force it on others. I am totally thinking of Catholics here, but it deals with any other "religion."

Read the Bible. Understand what it is trying to tell you. If you do these things, believe God is your God and Jesus is your Savior who died for your sins, you are a Christian.

    Period.

Hey Bill, right back at you! :)

    John 6:40 NIV

For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day."

religion arose out of the human need to form communities and observe significant life events. if you look at real religions [tribal religions like judaism, hinduism, and the the world's un-christianized or un-islamicized idegenous religions], faith is not a central factor, but participation in the community is. rituals and festivals are built around important events in people's lives or the tribes history.

it's a way for people to express their cultural identity and transmit social values, until some rat comes along and decides to use it for his own personal power, which happens all too often.

Because they feel like it defines them? In the end i dont believe in religion. I am a Christian, but I dont like religion because it can be so cruel. Religion was what made the pharisees prance around like they were higher than everybody else, or decided who could come to God. All throughout history religion has started wars, but its not the religion im aftrer. Im after the Savior.

People are religious in order to facilitate social bonding and provide humans with abstract goals. It's what makes most humans on Earth productive and eager towards surviving any dilemma they confront.

Religions big enough lies told frequently enough to be believed by unstable minds plus prenatal brainwashing and years of post birth inculcation are the culprits!!!

It is something to fall back on so when they do a mistake they can say "God/Jesus will save me or help me." It is also a reason to not be scared of death.
