When will the Mormon church be done raping the Ogden temple?
It's all so ridiculous, and just goes to show what I knew all along: the Mormon church is more worried about how something looks on the outside, rather than what's going on on the inside. Whether that "something" is a person or a temple, it really doesn't matter!
They tore this whole temple down, save for like 2 or 3 support beams, and rebuilt it, because it looked "dated." The temple was completely structurally sound and functional, but it looked "dated." Well, if that isn't superficial, I don't know what is.
The temple destruction was the best thing for the church to spend it's money on, because as we all know, there's no hunger or suffering throughout the world where the church's money would've been better spent! LOL! Who am I kidding? In a church where wealth=righteousness and superficiality and shallowness conquers all, this is just how things work!. At least the members or the Mormon faith aren't allowed to disagree or think for themselves, or else there might be problems!!!
Really though, I've been through one temple open house, and despite the shallowness and pointlessness of it all, they are stunningly beautiful buildings! Plus you get free cookies and juice afterwards!!! I wouldn't mind going on the Ogden temple open house after the church is done raping it and making it look the same as all the other ticky-tacky all-look-the-same temple castles that are going up right now! Conformity is your key to heaven in the Mormon church!
rrosskopf - I don't know what gave you the idea that I was even a member of your cult in the first place, but I'm certainly not! I lived in Utah for 8 years (which was 8 years too many) and I'm all too familiar with LDS church. I like thinking for myself and accepting others for who they are, so I'm not welcomed by the Mormons :). And are you calling your own LDS church a thief and wicked? The Mormon church CONSTANTLY criticizes the spending of others in talks (about spending on "worldly" things and what not, yada yada yada...), yet they can go unchecked and unquestioned, spending money on for-profit corporations, and rebuilding perfectly good temples, and building 5-billion-dollar malls? Wow, I guess you're the REAL definition of LDS hypocrisy, rrosskopf!
oli - thank you for your answer! The Ogden temple is only a little over 40 years old though. A new one compared to some of the old, pretty "castle" looking temples like Salt Lake, St. George,
Peter - I didn't realize the Ogden temple didn't look nice before? Sure, it was kind of "retro," but that's not necessarily a bad thing, and I still think it looked nice. How it looks should be irrelevant anyway, isn't it more important what goes on on the inside? It could be a square, brick, box on the outside for that matter, right? Once again, it just goes to show what's more important to Mormons? How buildings (or people) look on the outside, rather than what's going on on the inside!
Ammon, thank you for your very nice answer! You sound like one of those rare Mormons who's very loving and accepting, and fun to be around. No offense intended, but in my opinion, you sound too smart, insightful, loving, tolerant, Christian, and spiritual to be a Mormon! I guess there's a few good ones out there though :)
Grela LaTuc - thank you for your nice answer. I hate to say it, but, uggg, I honestly would've found it funny if the temple collapsed, full of people! Although I don't think that was EVER remotely even a slight conern! I'm sorry, just being honest, I have a sick sense of humor, but I'm aware of it and willing to change and that makes me GREAT! God bless!
j p - There is a temple in nearby Provo, Utah, that is (or was) pretty much a twin to the Ogden temple. People aren't complaining about that one being ugly. Also, there's plenty of buildings all over the place, likely including OTHER TEMPLES, that have plumbing and electrical systems from the 70s. The 1970s really weren't that long ago, and if these systems were installed properly out of quality equipment, I'm sure they are still functioning just fine now, barely 40 years later. Excuses, excuses. Mormons just don't want to admit that they're shallow and superficial, and are more worried about how temples, and people, look on the outside than what's on the inside. Thank you for proving my point with that though, j t!!!
From what I understand, the stuff that goes on in temples are sacred things (to Mormons anyway) that affect and benefit the temple attendee's, and countless deceased people's, immortal souls. This is great and all, but I wouldn't

The Temples are a celebration of Satan, right down to the "Magic" underwear.

You have plenty of good answers already but I thought I would add a couple of thoughts.
As I understand it, the remodeling of the Ogden Temple had to do with the City leaders wanting the appearance of the temple to be more harmonious with the character of the city as a whole. Admittedly, the Ogden and Provo Temples were modern in their design when they were built and I quite liked them. Being a BYU grad, I visited the Provo Temple on a regular basis and found it to be beautiful and efficient. I was quite surprised to hear that they were going to remodel the whole building and not just some minor remodeling on the inside. I saw no need for that but apparently the general authorities sided with the Ogden leaders.
One of the things that non-LDS are not able to understand is that when we sustain our leaders, we do so with the understanding that their call came by way of inspiration from God so that when we sustain them, we also sustain God. Thus, we generally accept what the general authorities present to us as being the will of the Lord in that matter. We are encouraged to pray about it to get our own revelation confirming the rightness of the action.
One comparable action that took place in Provo was the church wanting to increase and expand the mission training center by building a 9-story structure. The neighbors, mostly all good LDS, disagreed and complained about the tall building blocking their view of the valley below. The church backed down and said they would try to find another solution. Shortly thereafter, Pres. Monson announced the younger missionary age and missionary applications jumped as much as four fold. Now the wisdom of building that 9-story structure seems apparent and I think the Provo residents that rejected the MTC proposal ought to be ashamed of themselves.
I can't help but think that perhaps the Ogden residents are guilty of something similar. The Church allows the saints their free agency to choose to obey or not.
I think that we do not have the whole story but I do know that the Lord's work will move forward despite the opposition of misguided persons, whether inside or outside the church.

To begin with, there is no such thing as the Mormon Church, it is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mormon, as most view it, is a nickname of the members of the Church. Believe it or not the Church is just one of a number of Christian churchs. It's just that we practice the religion as the early Christians did, not the 4th century creeds.
With all of the traffic that Temple has every year, it needed to be rebuilt. But, then, I assume from what you said, that you would find it funny if the building were to collapse while it was full of LDS getting their endowments and marriages.
Our tithings go toward the building and maintenance of our Church buildings. We love God and want His houses to look good. And look at it this way, before the temple is consecrated again, it will be open to the all of the general population.
And the Church has other funds which goes toward helping others throughout the world.

I just wanted to let you know that you clearly don't know the definition of a cult. A cult is a system of religious veneration and devotion directed toward a particular figure or object.
If you take any religion, people are going to make mistakes. It's funny you say that you aren't welcomed by the Mormon Church. Okay, well did a certain PERSON make you feel like that? Well, don't put the blame on the church then. If the church leaders (prophet and apostles) are doing this, then okay. Also, we spend more than any other church on donations. You clearly don't know what temples are for and what members would give to be in there. 1. You sound like you have no common sense or knowledge of anything at all. 2. What's the point of writing this? So you can 'get it off your chest?' Congratulations. I'm sure you just changed many opinions. Said no one ever. hhahahah.

Every once in a while, all our temples have to be renovated, or they look run down. A temple is supposed to be the closest thing to heaven here on earth. That's why we make them so beautiful. If you make your surroundings simple and beautiful, it helps uplift the spirits of the people there. I guess it must have been as easy to re-do the outside at the same time. While I'll miss the unique look of the old temple, the new one is really nice.

Even God wants some home improvement...
from time to time.
Latter Day Saints don't approve of rape in way shape or form.
God is love. And love is God.
Inside a Temple Of Jesus Christ a person can taste a taste of Heaven.
If that is what they want to do. Everything is voluntary. Putting on some new clothes
is not a bad thing to do.
That is what is happening to Temples from time to time
when they need to be refurbished.
Beauty is good. Health is good. Those who tell you different are telling you
something different than what Jesus Christ taught. Jesus Christ healed many and
Jesus Christ built up as many He could.
Someday the Temple in Jerusalem will be rebuilt, again. Those who wail at the
wailing wall will wail no longer. Instead they will celebrate life not the sins of world.
The sins of the world are for the world. The Glory of God is for those who
keep the law of chastity. God is one God, because the God-Consciousness is
one Consciousness...
one Perfectly-Righteous-Consciousness.
Ascending the Stairway to Heaven by learning to keep each and every commandment
of Jesus Christ is the way to moral perfection and it is the way to exaltation in the
Highest Level of the Highest Heaven that there is.
To get there a Mister must have his Missus.

Since you aren't mormon, why do you care so very much about what we do with our temples and our money? We aren't detracting from the other monies that are spent in service to others or in humanitarian aid to others. So, why get so very upset about what we do with our money and the buildings that WE built? I think you have a better argument if we were to come and tear down your church building and then use our money to rebuild it. However, since that isn't what we are doing, Don't Worry....Be Happy!

I guess you missed the whole thing about God ordering the best for the Jerusalem Temple and Solomon sending people all over the place to get the the most rare things for the Temple.

A building gets old, and then it gets replaced. Its happens all over America. All progressive Americans are rapists according to that silly definition....and in every major city we'd all be living in log cabins....
What I find interesting in this "rant" is all of the blame, name calling and intolerance directed toward a group from a person making a statement that sounds like THEY are so blaming, name calling and very intolerant. The kettle calling the pot black as it were.

Our churches are very humble and basic. Nothing flashy, no raised pulpits, no stained glass, no expensive materials. Why? Because its for us.
The temple is Gods home on earth. We are modest in our own needs, but we dont get cheap with our dedications to God.
Matthew 26: 6-12 tells the story of the woman who anointed Jesus with precious oils. His disciples were offended at the "waste" since it could have been sold and given away. Jesus told them to back off... essentially :)
"When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me. For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always....Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her."

Ah, the mindset of a thief. Thieves justify their wickedness by criticizing the spending habits of others. I'll bet you aren't even paying a full tithe.
P.S. - So... I was right. You are complaining and yet you have no stake in it, since you have contributed nothing. In case you didn't connect the dots, Judas complained to Christ about how he spent their money, and Christ called him a thief. You should know that I don't hold any special animosity towards thieves. But taking moral advice from one is beyond the pale. You need to humble yourself.
