Help in installing mysql?

I have a windows xp 86 bit laptop (sp2, btw) and tried to install mysql. But when i run the setup (___.msi), it first requested me to install net framework which i did, but then said that i needed sp3 or higher service pack to install mysql. The thing is that i cant upgrade to sp3 since i have a 86 bit os.

the other way (which i dont even know if it will work or not) of installing from a zip file was too confusing and i couldnt find any tutorials I was able to understand. please if anyone can help me, like telling how to install from the zip or send a link of download that works for my laptop, id be really grateful.

Have you tried looking for an older version that runs on an earlier version of .NET framework?

If not, there is always virtualization. Get a Workstation player for XP, and virtualize a ISO of XP SP3 or Win7.

As for a Mac, I have not got any concept, regardless of the indisputable fact that I cant see why it wouldnt basically paintings, assuming there is an installer for it.
