what causes tire to have choppy tread wear?

well i had my tires rotated today and found that the tires that were on the front have developed a choppy tread wear on both the inside and outside i know it has to deal with a component in the front suspension but i dont know which component causes it exactly, the thing that puzzles me the most is that the truck only has 8400 miles on it, its a 2011 ram btw

Could be for one thing, low tire pressure, that allows the two sides to run on the road, with the center being down. Think of a tire with a lot of air, the center is higher then the sides, and will wear faster then the sides. So wearing on the sides and not the middle, can be low tire pressure.

The chopping could be wheel alignment, wheels and tires out of balance... or bad, or weak shocks.

A good alignment shop can tell you and take care of it.

Is it 4X4? Examine your entrance ball joints. Get a excellent ground jack, find spot below front end where you can jack up each tires immediately, or use jack stands to have both front tires up in the air. Next, squat down in entrance of tire, grab tire from each aspect and pull back and forth, have steerage wheel locked while you do this, Your checking for loloosenesspopoppingounds.

Sounds like a classic case of under inflation.
