Have a bad throttle body sensor.?

The car is a 2007 Chevy Cobalt LT. Is this something that is simple to replace or should I take it to mechanic.

Look up the part for your make year model on http://www.rockauto.com/ Look for that part on the side of your throttle body where the throttle plate is. Remove the big black fresh air intake from the engine air filter at the throttle body to see the throttle plate. See the plate rotate when you manually move the accelerator linkage (pedal). The Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) is mounted on the throttle plate shaft so it rotates when the throttle plate rotates. Sometimes there's anti-tamper type screws that attach the TPS to the throttle body, so if you can't remove those two screws, you can't replace the TPS. It should be an easy job otherwise. The TPS housing may be mechanically adjustable. Follow the instructions in your repair manual. The library has Chiltons and Motors repair manuals to read for free. Clean the throttle plate and bore with an old toothbrush and some kitchen degreaser spray. That may be part of your engine idle problem if that's your problem.

YOu CLEAN IT yourself! take $20 to the local oil change center and have them run CLEANERS through it! offer them $20 to do this SIMPLE job! The THROTTLE BODY and the IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE are intertwined or related to each other They FINE TUNE That air entering the engine for you. good LUCK!! Your TB oes NOT go bad, but it WIL get drirty from using the WRONG kinds of oil in there. YOu AT LEAST need DEXOS and even more MOBIL ONE 0W-30 oil! other oils wilL RUIN your sensors and get you to WASTE FUEL! GOOD LUCK!

It's simple, autozone online will show you pictures, or get a haynes manual for 14 bucks, lot cheaper than a hundred an hour with a one hour minimum.

  • it should be very simple to change. two screws and a single wire connection.
