Old computer- Nas or external hard drive?

I'm trying to figure out what to do with my old laptop. The screen is broken, so now I need something to do with it. Would it be best to use it as a NAS or to remove the hard drive and make it an external hard drive to act as a "usb"

    Boat anchors are good, that is about all you can do is remove the drive and toss the rest?
