Why can’t our own government listen to John Kerry?

CAIRO (AP) — Egypt's bickering government and opposition need to overcome their differences to create "a sense of political and economic viability" if the country is to thrive as a democracy, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said Saturday. He urged them to compromise for the good of the country.

A finger-pointing answer is a waste of time. This is "together" a Democrat AND Republican problem.

Update:

Brandan: John Kerry was in the Naval Reserves. During 1968-69 he served an abbreviated four-month tour of duty in South Vietnam as officer-in-charge of a Swift Boat. For that service, he was awarded combat medals that include the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and three Purple Hearts. He didn't give them to himself. Swift Boats were manned by American sailors charged with chasing the communist enemy who were trying to infiltrate through shallow rivers & along the coastline in Vietnam.

Update 2:

Mac & Ray: As long as each side sees it only as the fault of the other side our government cannot function & will be unable to govern. Democracy is about compromise. It cannot run without it.

Update 3:

I tend to agree with the premise that neither party wants to budge on anything since the GOP house is dominated by gerrymandered districts that got fewer votes in 2012, but the GOP representatives retained office anyway.

GOP gerrymandering was clearly done to avoid being held accountable by non-conservative voters, historically the GOP has endlessly pontificated on a theme of "the will of the people" but in practice the GOP could care less about what reasonable Americans think.

It seems rather obvious that forced austerity cuts are useful mechanisms the GOP uses as a vehicle to address all government "spending on the poor" as totally unnecessary so it must be gutted, but corporate welfare is sacrosanct and "off the table".

The democrats had an opportunity to nip the senate filibuster in the bud, but Harry Reid did what spineless democrats are famous for, he took the politically calculating way out and surrendered to GOP threats and virtually did nothing to force the GOP to compromise.

The senate GOP clearly has Harry's timidity precedence on their side and will never compromise as long as Harry Reid continues to retreat and capitulate to whatever tantrum the minority GOP throws until Harry gives in to them.

Rhetorical statements by both parties clearly indicates that they're determined to permanently abrogate their legislative responsibilities and equivocate on whatever distraction straw-man they wish to blame for failing to lead politically whatever that's supposed to mean.

The powers spelled out in the constitution clearly indicates that the president was deliberately made weak to avoid any monarch-like abuse of power.

This was made all the more clear when the Washington press asked a politically ignorant question of Obama when they assumed he had more power than he actually has because they assumed Obama could force congress to stay until they worked out an austerity avoiding deal.

The separation of powers makes what Scalia said last week all the more alarming when he basically said that the constitution does not allow for congress to create constitutionally based legislation and that unopposed votes on the VRA means something else because apparently only Supreme court justices like Scalia are capable of deciding which branch of government is allowed to narrowly interpret and strike down decided law deliberately ignoring a mountain of congressional evidence to the contrary.

Obviously Roberts and Scalia want the VRA to go away by constantly using false equivalencies to essentially equivocate that voting rights need no protection and that election rigging is only illegal when projected upon democrats, not when it's historically enacted by desperate RW authoritarians.

Compromise to a liberal means giving into them
