There is no best selling web site in the United States. There are many real estate websites that would list properties for sale throughout the United States.
You might consider locating a local mortgage lender in the area in which you would consider buying a house and get pre-approved for a mortgage loan. This would give you a great idea as to how much house you would be able to purchase. In this pre-approval you would not be looking at houses you are not able to purchase.
If you plan to pay all cash for this house you would not need to be pre-approved.
Without a pre-approval from a mortgage lender or proof of cash to purchase a property most real estate agents would not want to put too much effort into assisting you in your purchase of a property. Prior to showing you a property the real estate agent would recommend a mortgage lender to you for pre-approval.
Finding a property on any web site would require the services of a local real estate buyer agent to put you and the seller together. Normally a buyer would not pay the real estate agent in the purchase of a house.
In making an offer on potential property you would normally be required to show a pre-approval letter from a reputable mortgage lender in the United States or a subsidiary bank or mortgage lender from a foreign country, or bank statements indicating you are financially able to pay cash for the property.
If you are looking for a website google property for sale followed by the city and state you would want to purchase a house in. Many sites would appear, you might check as many or as few as you would like. Most would not charge for looking through the inventory of houses they have for sale.
Some web sites you find would offer a trial period, you might would want to avoid these sites as eventually they would charge you a fee. There are too many real estate web sites that do not charge.
I hope this has been of some benefit to you, good luck.

www.Realtor.com and www.Zillow.com
The status (under contract or sold) is not always updated regularly (especially with for sale by owners), but it is the best overall that covers all states.
the mls.com mentioned above took me to just one specific agency site in my town so appears to be an advertising tool for whoever pays to join.

The MLS (multiple listing service) has virtually every house on the market. Realtors and private individuals both use it to buy and sell.
