what is a 'cryptozoological creature' (or 'cryptid')?

because by the definitions that I have been given, it is: "a creature or being whose existence has been suggested but is not recognized by scientific consensus"

but by that definition: Santa Clause, Gnomes, Faries, Yahweh (otherwise known as Allah), Zeus, Vishnu, Amaterasu, Ra, Taranis, ex... would all be cryptids as well... though I don't think theists would like their god(s) being on the same plane as Bigfoot, The Loch Ness Monster, El Chupacabra, ex...

but then again: "today's religion is tomorrow's mythology"

You're right, theists wouldn't like that. Here I was, all excited I could explain what a cryptid was to someone, and you were just putting my God into the list.

A cryptid is a legendary creature that may or may not exist, but that usually refers to Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monsters...etc...

I'd say fairies and gnomes definitely fit in.

Santa Claus is not a real person at all, he is just based off St. Nicholas who gave stuff to the poor people, so he doesn't fit.

And gods... I only believe in one god, but even then I don't think any of them fit the definition of 'cryptid'.

Why couldn't you just look this up yourself?

It would surely clear things up.
