Rock and Pop- have you ever watched a movie scene where the music just didn't seem to fit the situation?

Sometimes music is used in movies when/where it doesn't quite match up with the plot or mood of the scene.

BQ- listening to?

BQ2- Do you think there's an OVERALL standard for good/bad music (as in, what you think would universally make music good/bad, not how you judge good/bad music for yourself)? If so, what's the standard?

Thanks everyone!

Yup yup. One of them is "A Knight's Tale". I understand the concept behind using classic rock as the soundtrack but it still kind of bugs me if I watch it and all of a sudden "We Will Rock You" comes on in the Middle Ages.

BQ: "Move Like Creatures" by Katastro. It puts me in such a good mood.

BQ2: No I don't think there is an overall standard, and it's only because some people will say Techno is the greatest style, others will say Country, and others will say Experimental Blackened Doom-Death Metal, or some other absurd sub-sub-genre. For me really almost any music has the potential to be incredible, except Techno, Dubstep, and Country. Personal preference.

Yea, plenty of times. Seems to be a trend in a lot of comedy movies, or any type of movie that isn't very dramatic, that classic songs from the 70's, 80's, or any past decade, just pop up at random. A lot of times I'm just like "Why the hell is this song playing? This is not a musical!"

BQ- "Tongue" by Soilwork...Haters gonna hate.

    BQ2- Damn, that's a great question.

There isn't a universal standard. Every demographic has it's own standards for what's good or bad...There are basic things like, most people would consider something to be bad if it sounded like a complete train-wreck, but then there might be people that love it (just look at noise music). There may be a majority that agree on certain things, but at the end of the day it's all about individual preference, and I'll just leave it at that.

    I enjoyed answering this.

Yes. Every one of Danny Elfman's scores are that way. Too over the top, trying to sway my emotions one way or another. It doesn't work, Hollywood. Tone it down some. I watched Joe Kidd last night. It is a great old western, but the music is totally 70's, as are all the hairstyles and porkchop sideburns. Takes away from the realness of the film

    BA: Nitty Gritty Dirt Band

BA2: The Wiggles are the world's blueprint for universally accepted music. And Weezer

Yeah, especially if there was a previous version of the movie made. Which is probably why I liked the older version of Hairspray a lot better than the remake.

BQ: Anberlin's new music video, Unstable

BQ2: Not really because there are so many different genres. What sounds good in one might be terrible in another, but somehow it works.

Yeah, but can't exactly recall which movie and which song at the moment........

BQ - Up on Cripple Creek by The Band

BQ2 - Probably in society's point of view, but music is what you make of it as an individual

BQ2: As much as I would have posted an essay on this question declaring my preferences a few yeas ago, I say no. Music taste vary too wildly to be able to know what would be considered good or bad on a global scale.

    This is so cheesy

    BQ: Nothing right now.

BQ2: I think there's universally bad music, but nothing that is universally good. Like everyone pretty much hates One Direction and Justin Bieber but not everyone likes one thing.

Indeed you are correct. Also, ill fitting music is often times purposely selected for scenes. So that needs to be taken into account as well.
