hi Katie.
option 1 is to splash out on 2 waterproof cast covers. shop around online for size, quality as well as returns policy and price. the majority are suitable for the shower but not the bath.
an example: http://www.stdpharm.co.uk/sclerotherapy/waterproof...
option 2. if the casts are there for some while some hospitals will have you in about once a month. they remove the casts, let you shower and replace the casts.
option 3 is to get your mam to speak to the hospital discharge team, even if you weren't admitted. they can, for certain patients, provide carers through social services to come in and help you wash. they helped me, even though i wasn't an inpatient, as i hadn't been disabled long and needed help to wash, change my PJs and make my breakfast. i am in my 30s so not geriatric yet.
option 4 is to contact the occupational therapy department at your local hospital and get ideas on what you should be doing.
best wishes, A x

You can take a sponge bath when you wash yourself with a sponge without getting fully in the water, or you can order special waterproof stuff for casts and that will work. Or ask your doctor for advice

Sounds like you'll be hand washing yourself for a while. If someone can just bring you a basin of hot water & a washcloth you can probably do it yourself. Good luck, I hope you won't be too long in the casts.
