Pimsleur Basic Spanish?

I'm listening to the Pimsleur basic Spanish course right now. They say to use "castillanyo" instead of "espanol" when referring to the language. From what I remember of my high school and college Spanish, this would be a real gaff - sort of like putting on airs, since Castillians have always been considered (at least by themselves) as Spanish aristocracy.

Who's right? Me or Pimsleur?

I think they are referring to the accent. There's a big difference between Castilian and Latin accents and I guess Pimsleur has both versions. I've heard Mexicans say that Spaniards speak with a lisp, that's how they sound to them. So if you're hearing the soft "s" sounds then you're learning the Spanish Spanish, Castellano, or how I like to call it the romantic Spanish :)

It's Castellano for the "Spanish" you are looking to understand, this is so as there are different regional languages in Spain. When most people refer to Spanish they just mean Castellano but call it Spanish because well that's what you know it by lol.

altho i ahd been studyin spanish 4 sum time, i was bout 2 go on holiday 2 spain and i wanted 2 refresh my spanish speaking so i took this course out of the library. Its really useful if u alredy have sum knowledge of the language and it builds ur confidence with speakin and understanding native speakers. however, it does not help with readin or writin so in that way its not very helpful. If u wana start spanish fro mscratch, this may be useful with ur pronounciation etc...but u will need other material along side it as well...... if u dont wana buy it, rent it from a local library.... and good luck!! if u want ne help jsut email me xD buena suerte!!
