How do I make an introduction to a hard essay?

I have to write an introduction to an essay with a sort of confusing prompt. The prompt is : You have been reading about the power of peaceful protests in Russel Freedman's book. Freedom Walkers. Write a piece arguing that nonviolent protest is or was more effective than violence in bringing about positive change...... Any Ideas for an introduction. I won't steal it. I just need a little help. I suck at writing. Thanks :)

Well I'm guessing that there is only one right answer, judging from the prompt. You have to first, gather all the facts as to why nonviolent protest is more effective for positive change. You'd have to say something along the lines of : When people want a change, they don't always go about making the change in the same manner. There are those who protest violently for what they want, and those who protest without violence. Through research, non-violent tactics are better. They help create more positive change than violent protesting does. And then you create your second paragraph and tell WHY. There are many variations of how you could do it aswell. You could create a question opener like : Have you ever thought of how you would go about making change? Would you do it peacefully? Here's why you should:... something like that should work. ( also if it tells you in the novel, give examples on why or how or both why it violent protesting doesn't work. )
