in 1955, there was not such thing as food stamps and section 8 vouchers

the great society of welfare brats was started by LBJ in the mid 60's

before then, women got married, fathers took responsibility for the children they produced

    didn't need a welfare state

    everybody pulled their weight

We did not have Section 8 housing subsidies in the 1950s/60ss and we did not have food stamps or food banks. In fact the only welfare was for divorced mothers with small children, nothing for unmarried pregnant girls with all the assistance that exists today. Rosa Parks did not even have the law on her side.

Nothing wrong with Rosa, but Republicans(who I presuppose are the straw man "haters" in your Query) were at the forefront of equal rights legislation while the democrat party was strong in the South in the sixties and opposed such and, yes, had clan members in political office, even at the federal level (Robert Byrd).

The larger question is, why wouldn't Rosa be for Republicans? They were for her...

    Short answer : Probably

From the Civil War (Lincoln was a Republican) until LBJ many White Southern voters were very conservative and known as "yeller dog Democrats", as in I'll vote for a yeller dog as long as it was a Democrat. Southern Democrats at the time tended to be by today's standards racists.

Upon Kennedy's death LBJ vowed to "outKennedy" Kennedy and given that he knew where all the bodies were buried managed to get a lot of White Southern Democrats to fall on their political swords and vote for sweeping Civil Rights legislation. This changed the political make up in the South making more Blacks Democrats and more Whites Republican.

Ironically this has put most blacks into the Democrats hip pocket and THEY have now become "yeller dog Democrats" or are now owned by the Democrats in much the same way they were once owned on plantations.
