no. Jesus said that we are to give to everyone who asks of us. so if a person asks us for money, we should give them money if we have any. it is not up to us to police what they do with the money. if the Lord allows them to ask us for money and we give them what we have, it is up to God to police what they do with it, because the money of a christian is supposed to belong to God and he is supposed to have total say over what we do with it.

so, if we give it to someone as Jesus commandes us to do, and they spend it on alcohol or tobacco, they will have to answer to God for that, not to us. who knows, that money they spend on alcohol or tobacco or drugs might be the very dollar which God is going to use to bring them to conviction of their sin and turn their entire lives around.

There was no tobacco available in 1st-century Palestine. The only easily-available alcohol would have been wine or beer.

Jesus probably didn't have much, if any, money. He and his apostles were largely living off of charity. And since I don't believe he was a miracle-worker, unless he'd happened to have bread and fish to hand over, he probably wouldn't have been able to give anything to the asker

There's nothing wrong with using money to buy alcohol or tobacco, as long as they're used in moderation. I know plenty of people, myself included, who use both moderately.

Didn't Jesus provide the wedding feast of Cana with gallons of wine? It was his first miracle. Didn't Jesus establish his Sacrament of giving his body and blood for the forgiveness of sins through bread and wine? He did.

I think that if someone was addicted to such things or used them for the wrong purposes, Jesus would know and would not give him money. But that's common sense.

no he would have given them money ,

Matthew 7 7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?

10 Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?

11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.

give him some credit ,,,he wasnt a hypocrite

Yes, but not the multiplying bread and fish. Then they would start to get lazy.

  • What you suggests sounds like a level-headed answer to me.
