The biggest reason for corruption is greed.

As to the country I would say many of the African countries and the Asian countries have the biggest corruption.

I see that whenever India is being talked about, the words ‘Culture’ and ‘Heritage’ accompanies it. Unfortunately, those are mere words and hold no real value in India. I do agree that India was once rich in heritage. After colonization and Independence from British, India is constantly pushed and pulled by foreign cultures and its own. The people neither completely switch over to a foreign culture nor stick to their own. As of now, they do not have a proper culture or lifestyle. I would say diversity is one of the direct causes, with all different 'caste systems' here politician of a particular caste instigates caste oriented issues over opposition party member of other caste. The mindless followers follow the leader. With all the power and no one to question corruption is a piece of cake.

To my understanding ‘Plagiarism’ and ‘Corruption’ are the dominant cultures prevailing now. And sadly they do not understand that they are poor at copying as well. People are satisfied with lifestyle of watching movies, listening to songs (all plagiarized), going to a mall with boyfriend/girlfriend, getting a white collar job, getting married, building a house, having a kid and stuffing the kid’s brain with the same sad lifestyle, getting old and dying. They have no variety, no passion in their life whatsoever. They are not allowed to take a brave step towards choosing their career as it is unsafe. You will never see a famous Painter, Architect, Olympian, Archaeologist, A Music band, Scientist, Novelist who is of Indian origin (there are rare exceptions, reminds me of “THE ROAD NOT TAKEN”). Having an uninteresting lifestyle, they all turn their attention towards increasing the population which is unfortunate and heavily reduces human value in India. This majorly drives the politician to corruption. As the people themselves are carefree and motiveless, taking advantage of them is a natural thing to happen.

Let me tell you something about Indians themselves. From the childhood until they finish their college they have no real aim in their life. As they are told that only way they can achieve greatness is by studying and nothing else (and a relative is shown as an example). If you ask a random student about his/her aim, they will most probably reply “Engineer/Doctor/something cliché and they have no idea how to achieve it” because even at that stage of education they are not aware of various streams in life that they can choose from, even if they are, the family doesn’t want them to take upon uncertain and unsafe options and they are forced to take the above said options. Coz of this you will rarely see a highly skilled engineer/doctor as everyone aims at this without real interest in those subjects and the trainer is an Indian too.

Please take a look at the position of India in “Creativity Index” if you will, it is placed before underdeveloped nations. It clearly shows that there is no room for creativity here with such stereotyped people. With not many options for career/entrepreneurship poverty is a direct result and as such is the case, corruption dances all over the place.

You will not completely understand this unless you are a part of this sad culture. India may seem to be colorful for an outsider who comes for a visit. But the reality is far inconceivable for a foreigner. I admire Japan for maintaining their culture and incorporating foreign ones as well in their lifestyle.
