Why arent there more Napoleonic erra Films?

There are so many ww1 and ww2 movies why doesnt anyone ever focus on the napoleonic wars to make films? im yeah there are a few good older movies made in the 60's and 70's, is there any particular reason why directors dont make films for this erra? i mean the patriot was a huge success and i think you could do it again

"The Patriot" was about the American Revolution, which occurred twenty years before Napoleon's rise to prominence in France.

Hollywood has little interest in the Napoleonic era because America played little part in it's events; the War of 1812 is only tangentially connected, and there's no rousing epic of America's military triumph to be found there. "Woo hoo, we fought to a stalemate! Huzzah!"

"Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World" shows this American bias clearly; in the source material, Captain Aubrey and the crew of the HMS Surprise are tasked with destroying an American ship of war, but for the film the enemy ship was changed to a French vessel so the domestic audience could root for the Brits as defenders of freedom against the tyranny of Bonapartist imperialism.

American involvement in the two world wars was pivotal, and they also lend themselves to narratives with wide popular appeal, while it's hard to commit a large budget to a project the studio worries about trying to market and recoupt it's costs, let alone earn a profit.

It would seem to be a prime topic for a French Production Company to do, then market it with English subtitles - I would certainly see it and I speculate that many people interested in History would appreciate the effort too. Hollywood isn't likely to take up this challenge, they dumb things down enough and then make docudrama's with idiot story lines that appeal to a certain "market". "Pearl Harbor" with Ben Affleck is a case in point, and here it's American History in modern times and they still made a story line for non thinking people. The only "good" part in that movie was the part about the African American sailor Doris "Dorie" Miller, the rest of the movie was trash. I am still looking for money back btw from that "flop".

Because it's not part of American history. The general movie audience would need a colossal exposition dump to explain the background, and these days no one has the patience to sit through it.

For similar reasons, Hollywood doesn't bother with the big costume dramas anymore.

As already reported 'Waterloo', then set in the comparable era is a action picture referred to as 'The Duellists'. for sure the television sequence 'Hornblower' and 'Sharpe' additionally are set in Napoleonic situations. can no longer remember seeing a action picture concerning the conflict of Trafalgar even with the shown fact that. Sorry.
