Can military training count as a firearms safety course in iowa?

I'm getting ready to get a handgun permit. The website says I need to complete a safety course. I am a reservist. I also completed a hunters safety course when I was younger. If I bring in a copy of my dd214 would that count as a firearms safety course.

I believe military weapons courses only count towards the military. Any civilian requirements are just that civilian requirements and military members do not get any different treatment than a civilian.

Did you check the actual state's website (read further)? I ask because the state of Virginia's firearms laws website explicit state that military training counts for firearms safety..i.e., the require training course requirement is waived.

So if you actually take the time to READ, yes it counts. If you have any other paperwork about completing any gun safety course, it counts.

I'd be willing to bet that the website also includes a phone number and/or e-mail address to ask these type of questions!
