How do you get the smell of muscle rubs out of a mattress?

I can usually deal with problems like this but I admit I am super stumped.

I use muscle rubs regularly...various sprays, gels, ointments, etc...they all have that Ben-Gay Icy Hot sweet menthol camphor smell. Ironically the worst offender says right on the can "vanishing smell". I use them at night after a shower, and then get into bed. I can always get the smell out of my sheets and blankets, but now it has gotten into the mattress, and I don't know how to neutralize it, so it doesn't quite matter if my sheets smell good or not.

I have tried straight vinegar in a spray bottle, and also about half a bottle of febreze, separately, sprayed on the mattress before putting the sheets back on. Didn't really touch it, just started to mask the odors but not really. Will it wear off?

I am open to suggestions if you know of a muscle product that does the same thing without the stink...or how to protect my mattress once I get the smell out.

Thanks!

You can try some Oxyclean. It might just wear off in the end. After it does I would suggest a mattress pad cover.

There used to be a product called Odoban that I bought at Sam's Club about 10 years ago that would take urine and feces smell out of about everything. You can use it in the laundry, spray it in the air, spray it on furniture, etc. It comes in a gallon concentrate that you can dilute in a spray bottle for certain purposes. If you don't have a mattress pad, that might help control some of the smell seeping into the mattress. Since you want the smell out of the mattress, I'd get some Odoban, mix it according to directions and spray it on the mattress.'

I have a fitted sheet on the top mattress and a mattress shirt on the backside one, so they are each covered and protected. You could additionally keep the cat in an additional room in the course of the night.

    Air the mattress outside.
