I want to switch to Ubuntu but afraid, need help?

I am currently a Mac user but would like to slowly switch to Linux. I was thinking of getting an Ultrabook(Needed for College) but I do not want to spend a ton of money on a machine that might/might not work completely because of driver problems. I am at a crossroads and the only way I am going to make the switch from OSX to Ubuntu is if I know my $1000+ Ultrabook actually functions correctly most, if not all the time.(I have looked at the "New XPS 13" Developer Edition but it is to expansive. I would like to keep the costs down as much as possible, aka around $999.)

Why don't you install it in a virtual machine on your Mac and get comfortable before you consider laying out big money for a dedicated Linux laptop? One of the biggest advantages of a Linux-based OS is the ability to test drive it before committing full time.

Can't answer without knowing the specific model. Google "will ultrabook work with Ubuntu" it looks like it does work.
