    Required Meaning

Actually, "Some assembly required," was a marketing ploy which looked good to single moms when the idea was first revealed. The manufacturers saw how it was going and carried it through to the general marketplace. Now everything that is semi-modular says this. It does not matter if it is crib or a Cruise Missile.

I cannot stand the directions produced in China. They are descriptive idiots when it come to providing the pictorial and verbal directions required to assemble a simple piece of furniture. I was a tech writer for Boeing and we always had to envision ourselves as the end user of our instructions. We did it right. These toy and furniture manufacturers leave a lot to be desired. Surrender your day if you buy any of these products. That's the "Real meaning of some assembly required."

"Some assembly required" can mean you have to haul out the big toolbox and don't plan on going anywhere for the next 30 minutes. Or it can mean you'll need a screwdriver, be able to follow directions and be happy it was inexpensive as it was easy to put together and looks ok.

Some assembly required can mean anything from 100% of the item is torn down and boxed for shipping to only attaching a projecting part that is too risky to ship when assembled. Knockdown furniture is usually 100% assembly required. My big screen TV just required me to attach the base with 4 screws for setting the TV on a TV stand.

They don't want to say "Allow 4 hours for assembly." You might not want to buy that product if it were a bike.

I gave this a few minutes of thought, first, while Jesus may have been a carpenter, I don't think the Bible has any verses describing anything he made/built/put together so you may not want to hire a contractor without references. My Dad was a carpenter, but he died, and he's not god he stayed dead, and he's not Jesus either he took great pains to teach me Irish tales and "Stuff" and for some reason I can't fathom, The Kalevala. So I am not the son but the daughter of a Catholic/heathen carpenter, I speak some French, mostly insults. But I also am not a deity and I am on the east Coast and so completely useless to you. and the moral of the story is apparently not all deities that operate hammers are equal. Please tell me those French directions have pictures and Screaming about Satan should be reserved for Sunday morning. That way it's over before I'm conscious.

The real meaning of "Some assembly required" means that they installed one of the 700 screws required at the factory.

hahaha, I agree. It supposed to mean that some of whatever you're building is already built and you just need to put finishing touches...an example would probably be like buying a table that says "some assembly required" and you just have to screw the legs on or something like that. But you are right, some of the time it's like building a freaking computer! hahaha

Two hours time, a lot of screaming, and a big headache!
