Don't be a jew, or a christian, or a mormon, or a buddhist.
Just learn to love and be a good person, good person meaning do whats loving. But of course you will be the enemy.
Catholics/christians, they took the bible and changed it into the usual, "jews" are no better, mormonism is self explainatory. Buddhists, well, their path is no path which is just another path.
Catholics/christians though, wowza! It's mind blowing what they do! They literally stole it and changed it! It never mentioned hell for instance, there was never any hell in the bible, they just decided to put that in there.
There was never any free-will either, there was choice, but it wasn't free-will at all. The flood was not global, there were no uni-corns(as in magical horses), they knew the earth was round, they stuck the book of genesis in a freaking meat grinder also and it came out just a bunch of hamburger after they got their hands on it, etc etc etc......
We will all find, after we have a proper translation and after much study, that science doesn't contradict it at all. We just don't have complete science or good translations or teachers. Stick those things together it will blow or minds, but as of yet we have imcomplete science, bad teachers, and lacking translations. this is otherwise known as a complete circus!

"Higher power" is far too ambiguous a term, and could refer to all kinds of non-supernatural, non-agent processes. "Power" refers to something capable of accomplishing something, and "higher" is relational, referencing a relation between X being above or greater than Y on scale Z. Assuming Y refers to humans, there are many things that could be considered capable of accomplishing things beyond a human. For example gravity, the gravity of the Sun is greater on the scale of ability to keep the Earth in orbit than a human. Which could be considered a "higher power."
If you mean a higher agent process(an entity) capable of more than humans, then you have to put forth the description of the character you have in mind, what phenomena it supposedly causes, what stories it's put forth in, etc. Yahweh is the god character of the Abrahamic faiths. Is that the "higher power" you have in mind? Then read about Yahweh, the stories that put the character forth, and see if that's what you mean.

I encourage you to read C.S. Lewis's book Mere Christianity and see what you think after that.
Wishing you well.

If you don't know and don't dismiss the possibility that there might be *something*, you're agnostic. Plain and simple.
You can't force yourself to believe

Go for the Hindu version.
It makes the most sense.
