I need reasons why the legal driving age should be 17 years old minimum?

I'm doing a persuasive essay for school, and the topic I chose is driving age. I will be writing why the legal driving age should be raised to 17 at the bare minimum, if not 18.

I need reasons why this should be done.

I would very much appreciate a solid reason for a raise in driving age with a link as well.

I need 3 reasons supporting a raise in driving age, and [interestingly enough,] one reason against it.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Update:

chevy, can you explain exactly why it should be lowered?

Update 2:

can people try to put links as their sources?

Maturity is huge, being old enough to take responsibility for their actions, most kids definitely arnt matured at 16 our brains arnt even developed at fully at 16, kids are still KIDS at 16 what makes you think they'd be able to take responsibility for a vehicle alot of kids don't even take care of themselves, we need to re think this... And most kids arnt ready to deal with the repracusions (don't know if I spelt that right) of being in an accident/getting in trouble with the law. Driving a vehicle is a privilege not a right and should be monitored closely especially with a young driver. Most 16 year olds don't exactly act "adult" in everyday situations what makes you think they'd act adult in front a wheel? :) good luck

I could come up with reasons why the minimum age would be 25! Many people start to drink once they are age 21. Many of them drive while intoxicated. How many died because of an inebriated driver?! Wait until age 25, then most people are less likely to drive while intoxicated.

An alternative... lower the drinking age till 18. When you are 18 you are an adult. 18 year old people can join the military and die for our country so maybe if you can DIE for our country you can drink once you are age 18? If that happens then raise the driving age till you are 21.

I seriously doubt that will happen, but who knows?

There's some argument for matching the age you can drive on your own to the age of legal majority at which you can enter into contracts on your own and take responsibility for your own actions, such as purchasing insurance, signing loan agreements, paying your own bail etc.

It seemed unfair to me when I was a teen paying for my own bike insurance and with a snowball's change in hell of affording a sports car, let alone insuring it, that someone my age could drive daddy's car on daddy's insurance and not have to pay a thing - effectively getting their risk paid for by other drivers who did not mislead the insurance company.

Because most teens are too irresponsible, lack courtesy, and too easily distracted by other things.
