Why is society obsessed with hacking and becoming a hacker when its ILLEGAL?
I know not all people are but it seems like a lot of people want to become hackers because they seem to think of it as cool but
its not (its just destructive behavior). I do realize that hacking is only illegal when you don't have permission etc. and there are wargames like smashthestack and hackthissite where you can hack legaly but I am more so asking why people want to hack others illegally and steal from them/take down their website/deface there website etc.

Most people don't even really know what a hacker is! Secondly, hacking is NOT particularly illegal either. It depends on what you use it for. It isn't a crime to legally own a gun. It only becomes illegal if you use it to commit a crime. I have to laugh at the dimwits who copy and paste a few scripts someone else wrote and then consider themselves hackers.
