Why do a lot of questions aimed at atheists end with CHECKMATE ATHEISTS!!1!!?

You know how in cartoons when someone has an idea a light bulb appears over their heads? Well, usually when someone says "CHECKMATE ATHEISTS" it's a dim flickering flashlight that's almost out of batteries and fails almost immediately.

I think it is mostly used as a joke by poes, based on the quotation: "Debating creationists on the topic of evolution is rather like trying to play chess with a pigeon; it knocks the pieces over, craps on the board, and flies back to its flock to claim victory." At least, that is how I use it.

I don't play chess.

I am an Atheist though.

I play hockey.

How tough are the ankles?

Because to win an argument in theology you need to be a belligerently ignorant theist who asks questions so backwards that they don't even deserve a response, that way the atheist won't respond, therefore successfully proving that god exists. That's how I understand it anyway.

Especially given the absolute ridiculousness of those couple of sentences, usually.

I think you already know the answer, but I'll say it anyway:

They think their questions or comments PROVE they are right about their beliefs and therefore they have "won" their argument about god's existence. Which, of course, is another fairy tale they keep telling themselves and expect us to believe it too.

Because Christians don't know how to play chess.

Those people are mostly POE's pretending to be Christians and saying something purposefully asinine. They don't seem to realize that most Christians come across as plenty asinine without their help.

You see, the Christians are mentally retarded, and they do not know the difference between a conversation and a board game. It's best to ignore them and let them run around in circles with their hands together screaming about bread, fish, and women made from ribs.

They think they won, they use checkmate to say game over... so no matter what you say to disprove their claims they already think they won. Like a child.
