Can I connect my external drive to my router?

I just got a 3TB external hdd and was wondering if I could set it up as a NAS device by hooking it up to my router via USB... My 5GHz network seems to be faster than my USB 2.0 connection from computer to hdd...

Depends on your router/modem. Some will allow you to do this. Mine does and I have a flash drive with music plugged in at the moment. I can access the files from any computer in the house just by opening my browser and using \\mynetwork and navigating to the files. I've also plugged in my external harddrive.
