Ideas For My Rat's Birthday Party?

Hello answerers of Yahoo Answers! I currently own one wonderful pet rat, named Elsa. She's been a great companion and lovable pet. When I bought her (July 3rd), she was only a few months old. I did the math, and guessed that her birthday would be somewhere around April 3rd. One this day, I am planning on throwing a fun first birthday party for her! They only get a few, so why not make her first birthday the best day of her life? I have some great ideas, but I would appreciate to hear any ideas you might have.

First, I'm making a birthday cake! You can't have a birthday without a cake! I would appreciate some fun recipes for Elsa. Of course I want it to be delicious, but also make sure it is rat-friendly!

I also am looking for fun games and activities I can do! I'm only thirteen, so I don't have much money (I have about $100, but I only want to spend a portion of it on this. Perhaps, $25, if necessary). Do you know any games my hyper little friend would like to play, that I could make using regular household items?

Next, I am thinking about buying another rat, as a birthday present! I have done research (unfortunately after I got Elsa), and I do know how terrible it is to keep a rat alone. My parents won't let me get her a friend at this time. But I'm sure I can get them to see how important it is, if I try. Of course, if I got another rat, it would also be female (so don't waste your time telling me about that). I need some ideas on how to safely introduce them, if I do get another friend.

Lastly, I would like to hear any other ideas you have! My only request is that your ideas are rat-friendly and doesn't involve water (my rat absolutely hates water). Please be creative! What kind of things do your rats love to do?

Thank you so much for answering! Not only do I really appreciate your answers, but Elsa will be pleased to enjoy your ideas, too!

:)

I'm not sure of any rat friendly cakes so I can;t rally help you with that. For games you could make a digging box, there are many different versions of this but I like the one where you put potting soil into a container and grow parakeet seed in it and let your rats eat it. Rat pinatas are pretty good, all you need is a toilet paper tube, a piece of paper, and treats. You put the toilet paper tube on the paper, wrap it around the tube, and twist one of the ends, then you put the treats in the other side and twist. You could change this up some by putting the treat in a plain paper towel (No designs), twisting it, and tying it from the roof/cage top. You could make a maze out of empty boxes around your house, cut holes in the side and connect them. You could make a house with the same idea as the maze, but making it look like a house. I know you said your rat hates water, but this might be worth trying, my rats hate water but they love this, it's called pea fishing, you get a shallow bowl (Mine is about a half an inch tall, but you could get something a bit taller), fill it with water, and add frozen peas, or any other rat friendly frozen fruits.

A new rat would be a great present, and since your rat is female, there is a better chance that she will accept a new rat even though she is older. You'll need and extra cage for the new rat, while you slowly introduce them outside the cage. This site should tell you how to do it properly. http://www.ratforum.com/showthread.php?39500-How-t...

Have you ever read 'The witches' by Roal Dale? Well it had mice in it but you can do it with Elsa too. What happened was the little boy built a rat circus and played with them in that. And the great thing was he used house hold items like string for the tight rope. And as for the cake maybe you could go to a pet store and see if they have any rat cakes because I have seen them at pets at home before or maybe you could ask them if a normal cake would be safe. As for getting another rat, I think its a great idea! maybe to introduce them start by having them separate and when you clean them out mix some of their old bedding with the other so they can get used to each others scent. Hope I helped and tell Elsa happy birthday! :)

First of all I love the cake idea! Maybe some other fun treats? My rats like cheese flavored yogurt drops. Make some obstical course for them to climb and play on. Plenty of interaction with you and the guest rats of course! I'll be making some mini muffins for my rats Bdays in a few months! lol

For the cake get a bowl that you don't mind your rat going over and fill it with its favorite food mix not too high though. Then get another bowl and put some yogies in it then put it in the microwave until it becomes pasty then spread it over the bowl filled of rat food. Then get another flavor of yogies and only put a few this time and microwave until it becomes pasty then write Elsa on top of the cake with it.
