    Desertion pretty much guarantees a Courts Martial.

    If you're not familiar with it....a Courts Martial with a guilty finding is a FEDERAL COURT CONVICTION. That means that forever more you are an ex-felon, even if you never do a day of time locked up.

    Add to that you'll end up with either a Bad Conduct Discharge or even a Dishonorable Discharge...either one of which will follow you for the rest of your life.

    Reduction to E1

    Forfeiture of all pay and allowances.

    Is that all bad enough for you?

    @dan h,

    Not every type of courts-martial can result in a federal felony conviction. Only 2 of the 4 possible types, if the soldier is found guilty would show up as a felony conviction. Only a finding of guity in a general courts-martial or a special courts-martial with BCD authority would result in a federal felony conviction. A Summary or a Special Courts-Martial would not.

    A federal felony and a Bad Conduct Discharge (or worse a DD) on your record for life...

    Lets just say you ditch the needy chick and never think about this horrible, life changing, lifelong consequence a$$ hattery idea..

    There isn't one chick in the entire world that is worth a felony...and any chick urging to commit one isn't worth your time of day

    There's an old saying in The Corps regarding desertion that if you just shoot a couple of them the problem goes away...

    Tell that dumb broad that you would rather serve your country then risk throwing away your entire future for her. Getting caught for desertion will be a permanent black splotch on your record until the day you die..

    The vast majority of AWOL simple cases are with an Article 15 (felony charge), reduction in rank, and/or transfer to a disciplinary school/remedial school for several months to almost a year.

    During war it can be death.
