Fantasy Baseball Draft pick?
Hello, I have a fantasy baseball draft coming up and i have the first overall pick. My league is H2H and the categories are Batting AVG, HR, RBI, Runs Scored, Stolen Bases, Strikeouts for Batters. The Pitching Categories are ERA, Wins, Losses, WHIP, Saves and Strikeouts. I'm stuck between drafting as first overall, Ryan Braun,Mike Trout, or Miguel Cabrera. If i can get your opinion about who i should draft first, it would be extremely helpful, Thanks

frankly, you can't go wrong with drafting any of those guys. their values are extremely similar and drafting one guy over another wouldn't make much of a difference.
however, I like drafting guys who can contribute in all catergories during the opening rounds so I would go with Mike Trout or Ryan Braun over Miguel Cabrera but it's a preference and your method of drafting.

Anyone drafting Trout #1 overall is setting up for failure. It is almost a rule (haha) that players in their second season see a huge decline. Teams have seen Trout before now, and toward the end of the year last year you could already see that due to his numbers returning to reality. No way will he repeat last year's pace and performance. Safest bet is Cabrera IMO. Braun is a nice option too, but as a base stealer he opens himself to more injury potential. In no way am I saying Braun is injury prone, but he runs a higher risk of getting a major injury than Cabrera. I'd go with Cabrera. You are almost certain to get 150-155+ games from him with a .300+ BA and about 35-45 HRs, 100+ RBIs and 100+ Runs. Detroit also has Torii Hunter in their lineup and Victor Martinez is back from injury. So a Lineup of Jackson, Hunter, Cabrera, Fielder, Martinez, is pretty potent and sure to score a ton of runs. Also, with Fielder and Martinez behind Cabrera, teams would be foolish to walk Cabrera.
You can find speed later in the draft. Heck, in the next round with the 20th and 21st pick (assuming a 10 team league) you can still land 20-20 guys like Hanley Ramirez or Ian Kinsler. Starlin Castro is also a candidate for a .300 BA, 15 or so HRs, and about 20-30 SBs. Then of course there is the sleeper Bonifacio in Toronto. He is likely going to end up being their starting second baseman early in the year. He can hit about .260, he has no power, but he can possibly steal 60-70 SBs. He can be had in the mid-late rounds too. Defintite sleeper IMO. He was injured a lot in 2012 and only played 64 games. Despite that he still had 30 SBs. Being in Toronto with that lineup he could also score you a ton of runs. For missing almost 2/3 of the season he still finished in the top 20 in SBs.
So again, I'd go with Cabrera #1 overall. In this day and age of baseball, speed isn't quite the elusive stat it was in fantasy baseball only a few years ago. Power is actually becoming more rare, and are generally the guys taken off the board first. If you land Bonifacio, BJ Upton, and IMO another sleeper in Desmond Jennings, you'll have about 120 SBs at least between only those 3 guys, and all of those guys can be had in the 3rd round or later, 2 of them in the 14th round or later. While the BA, SB, and HR players are awesome and should be targeted, you want reliability with the 1st overall pick. And there is no one more reliable than Cabrera at #1.

Cabrera or Braun. They have been consistent over the past couple of years while Trout has only given us a sample size of one season.

Assuming that Hanley is going variety one on the draft and additionally you do not want neither A-Rod or Pujols, the perfect %. to get is David Wright. he's going as severe as a variety 3 %. in primary drafts and there is not something incorrect with Wright at variety 2. the solid factor is that he hasn't attain his top yet, so your getting a guy that could desire to choose for 40 HR, one hundred ten RBI in a season. the actuality that he can attain 20 SB is an advantage so if your not feeling for Pujols (A-Rod's inventory is dropping), then Wright is your guy.

Mike Trout. He can steal bases, hit home runs, drive in RBI's, and is pretty durable so an injury is not likely. He's young and versatile, one of the best 5 tool players in the game.
