Have I been training in a mcdojo?
I've been training at the Shinpi Izumi school of Traditional Jujutsu since August 2011. Now I'm charged £3.50 a session and only more for gradings like £20. We have full contact during randouri and during practice with the exception of punches making contact, but what has my suspicions going is that gradings are every 3 months and I'm going to be tested for 1st kyu towards brown instead of purple next April. Plus we don't really emphasize that much on striking technique. Should I be suspicious?

Go to other dojos and check out the standards of student that are at your belt level
If you have the option go one on one with them and see how you stack upto those guys
If you are failing miserably then yes something is wrong. Talk to your instructor about it and see his reaction that would tell you whether or not to continue in that particular dojo
