High End Mac Vs High End PC which do you want and why?

I heard these two guys talking about the computers, the subject of graphics card came up and this guy basically said that the Mac has a faster processor and stronger graphics card than the Pc and that it can play DmC (which it cannot).

I don't think that Mac can touch Pcs with geforce 690. Mac doesn't have that either.

Well, pre-built PCs are always crap and overpriced, Macs can only be pre-built (ill get to hackintosh later).

Well, the high end 12 core Mac Pro is about £5000 more than a high end 12 core home-build, PC is generally better for gaming as you have control over your hardware- say your iMac is beginning to struggle with games, your PC you pop out your GPU, put a new one in (excluding laptops). Whereas apple have selective hardware, you cannot easily get the right drivers.

So really, PC offers more opportunities to any system builder, and if you want to use a Gigabyte Board and an i3 you can build a 'hackintosh'.

I'd much rather game or compile on my own PC rather than an Alienware/Mac.

When you consider that Macs use off the shelf Intel CPU's and standard Nvidia or AMD/ATI video cards you can conclude that at least one of the people in the discussion doesn't know what he's talking about.

the issue with macs is they created an ecosystem.

the are plenty of fan boys that tend to have no knowledge of computers and just claim macs are best because they never crash and so on. yet they never factor in that their computer that crashed all the time only cost £250, whereas if they spent the £1000 they are willing to fork out on a mac, it wouldnt crash, and it would be faster.

now to the ecosystem. apply has done alot of things and alot of things right in the last few years. their macbook pro range although not really the top anymore was the most powerful laptop you could get that sustained good battery life. most other companies have caught up now however. they were also the first to the market with the modern smartphone and the tablet computer.

these devices all work in harmony with one another over the cloud. so people that have bought into this ecosystem either have a big job if they want to buy out of it or are completely oblivious to the modern, and sometimes better alternatives (hate on Microsoft all you want the new skydrive is far more user friendly than dropbox)

this guy was just completely wrong when arguing for macs. unless you get a ma pro you are forced to use mobile versions of graphcis card in all other apple products. so graphics card wise the is no contest for the price of a imac i would expect to have atleast a amd 7950 hd or nvidia 670 in my machine.

processing power is again wrong. apple have gone a bit like other businesses in terms of this, putting i7s in computers that dont need them.

ram is an issue, for video editing etc you need alot and the limitation of 16 gigs is a big issue for the imac.

SSD + HDD, the is no option in the imac to have more than one hard drive really. personally i would set u a 256GB ssd with two 500 gig 7200rpm drives in raid 0 for data. something you dont have a chance of doing on an imac.

then the OS windows 7 is great plus you can dual boot to ubuntu, also great.

long story short whatever what you look at it the windows based PC wins. the only time AND I MEAN ONLY time you may need a macbook is if you need a semi-powerful laptop that can last 7 hours on a single charge, with brightness turned all the way down.

It depends for what you will use your high end computer. You point your attention on GTX 690. So, I suggest that you are gamer. If I'm right then choose PC. It will cost for you two times less than Mac.

If you are not gamer then first do a small research and decide which platform can offer you best applications for you job.

A Mac is a PC. Without anything specific to compare the question is pointless. A Mac can play DmC...
