Georgians (Atlantans more precisely) Why so angry about the new dome?

It seems to me that a lot of people in suburbs around Atlanta are doing nothing but whine and complain about the dome. I can understand a few points, such as the fact that the city takes forever to do such small things as remove garbage piled in alleys, or abandoned lots not being demo-ed. But this is a big boon to your local municipals.

Think about it, the money from tax proceeds will go to the city, which should (in theory) increase funding. The building and construction of the dome will (in theory) provide employment for the suburbs. So why the big fuss? Is it because a man waved a check book and promised to build something new and the city jumped on it so fast?

Or is it because it seems that a lot of people will look around their neighborhoods, see crap they don't like (graffiti, trash, litter on the streets, etc) and decide that instead of doing something about it themselves, they would rather scream about how someone (not themselves) should do something about it. Whether it be cleaning it up, stopping it from happening, etc.

I believe JFK said something along the lines of "Ask not what your country can do for you, but rather what you can do for your country." Shouldn't the same apply to local areas? I live in a nice neighborhood and when I see crap that I don't like, litter, graffiti, etc, I take the time to attempt to clean it up. Because no one likes seeing that crap.

Not from Atlanta.... or even Georgia for that matter. But the issue about stadiums is pretty universal to people who live in cities. for any length of time.

The issue, in a nutshell, is that stadium tax levies..... are ALWAYS transfers of taxpayer money to private (and already extremely wealthy) individuals and organizations.

What's the benefit to the average Atlantan? A newer stadium slihghtly nicer than the old one.... but with beers that cost $2 more each.

What's in it for the owner of the Falcons..... a half a BILLION dollars for his team to play in. more comfort... that he doesn't have to spend much at all on.... but which he gets to keep ALL THE PROFIT for.

Who is the real winner? And who foots the bill for someone else's profit?

    EDIT:

Make that a $900 million benefit to the owner..... I underestimated the cost of a stadium by $400 million.

I guess the key question to me is "who paid for it" and why?
