What makes a smart person smart?

To me, smart is the ability to use what you have learned to make the world a better place for you and those you come in contact with.

'Dumb' people don't study. 'Dumb' people don't go beyond the books or other resources used in the classroom. 'Dumb' people aren't engaged in their classes or courswork. 'Dumb' people don't stay on top of coursework, sit in front of the tube, or play video games.

I know. I was 'dumb' through my freshman year in high school. Starting my sophomore year, I did the opposite of the above, and, Bam!, I was suddenly 'smart.' (Fortunately for me, I was a heavy reader from my very early years, so my grammatical skills and vocabulary were already finely tuned.)

As for your ability to get math quicker than others: We all have our quirks. Some things come easier to me than other things, and, for some reason, our society uses math as a benchmark for being 'smart.' For example, you don't mention foreign language. How are you at those? Can you soak up a new language without studying?

And, finally, high school coursework is really quite easy, as are the first two years of college. Just wait until your junior year of college, especially if you go into the sciences. That's where the men are separated from the boys.

Good luck in your academics, but don't assume that you can slide through every class until you get your degree.

Because your the type who is a fast learner and who can comprehend school work. I wouldn't say people who don't get it are dumb, but some people can be slow learners. What makes a person smart is knowledge and how well they can comprehend information. Personally I think some people aren't dumb, they just make the wrong decision or do the wrong things to get them into trouble.

a clever individual is a individual who can think of many suggestions to a difficulty. The IQ does not accurately describes a individual's intelligence. a individual's intelligence is all situational . could a scrawny right now A pupil get away sparkling from a war of words of a gang ?

Smart means having the neurons in your brain wired appropriately for the subject in hand.

Dumb means they're not wired as suitably, if at all.

Asking the right question (or at least a better question) is often a sign of true intelligence.
