Was Holly Golightly in Breafast At Tiffany's a borderline personality?

She was at least a flake. I mean, she wasn't very responsible, now was she? She didn't seem to have any kind of job, she played suitors (whom she picked up in bars, evedentially) off one another, she was admitedly a gold-digger, she walked out on her husband and children (after marrving a man when she was 14), she was repeatedly insensitive to the Japanese-American guy, the drunken bash she had at her place didn't seem to be an uncommon occurance... And at the end, after the protagonist guy kind of told her off and tossed the engagement ring at her, they just kind of...looked at each other. Are we to assume they lived happily ever after? Did she even play house with that guy? Or did she change her mind again after a day and a half?

She was a bit weird of a role model, wasn't she?

Holly Golitely is one of the most complex character's in literature. She is an injured cat - a high priced call girl thrown away by her customer's whom she has hoped would have real love for her. She thrives on attention and must have someone with her to constantly "pet" her ego. She seems to change her mind so often because she is trying to keep from hurting when each man ditches her or something goes wrong again in her life. If she didn't maintain her up-beat party personality, she would crumble - as she did the night when she threw "Cat" away. She knew that she WAS Cat - being constantly thrown away herself. She decided to save "CAT", though, and in-turn, realized that she was also the only one who could save herself.

The movie was changed significantly from the book/play, as her male friend is really gay. This could not be portrayed in the movie at the time if they wanted people to pay for a ticket, so he was changed to more of an asexual character, with no sexual interest in Holly. Knowing this, a happy ending would consist only of their continuing to remain friends, and hopefully, Holly either going back to school or getting a legal job that gives her self confidence in something other than her sexuality.

She was a prostitute, her job was sleeping with rich men for money. She was not a gold digger - she was a professional call girl. Unfortunately that message is not really told in the film - people just think she's some socialite party girl. She's not - she's a call girl

I don't know why anyone would consider her a role model.

it is a great idea. pick up the tiara, pearls, black gloves, and diamond ring from either an old jewelry or antique shop or maybe claires if thats what you like. As for the cigarette holder, try a pawn shop or antique shop and the dress you could get at a thrift store. it's a great idea and hope this answers your question.
