Are they only for black belt or compulsory for all students.

In WTF dojangs gup-ranked (colored belts) students normally wear all white doboks, and dan ranks (black belts) wear doboks with a black collar. Some black-collared doboks (especially ones made by Adidas) have black stripes on the top or on the pant legs, but I do not know of any uniforms with stripes on them made with a white collar.

The Black V-Neck Stripe on the Uniform Top is usually designated for 1st Dan Black Belts and above, however some TKD schools allow their students to wear the the Black V-Neck Top when they start out as a White Belt..

I cannot speak to the WTF, but the ITF stripes indicate the level of black belt, or more specifically the level of instructor the black belt is. 1st through 3rd Dan are considered to be Novice Instructors, signified by the black stripe around the bottom edge of the dobak top. 4th through 6th degrees are considered Expert/International Instructors, and are identified by the black stripe along the bottom edge of the uniform top as well as black stripes down the outer arms and legs of the uniform. Finally, 7th through 8th (Master Instructor) and 9th (Grand Master Instructor) are identified by the black stripe along the bottom edge as well as a black and white stripe down the arms and legs of their uniform (this is specific to the ITF under GM Trajtenberg).

they're just clothing patterns to recognise the ITF and WTF styles, the ITF has more stripes on the side of their legs and the clothing is more like japanese kimono.. and has black lining stripe all over it..

the WTF style has a V neck design, the V neck color used to be black and its the official WTF uniform (dobok), but in early 1990's south korean government launched the fully white color uniform (included around the V neck) this uniform used to be free for elementary school students in korea due taekwondo is in their school curriculum..

and this clothing styles been exported or copied by other taekwondo schools around the world..

thats why the WTF taekwondo has 2 colors of uniforms.. the normal white with a black V neck (the official one).. and the 'all white' one.. (the taekwondo uniform for elementary school students in south korea).

I doubt it. Isn't that reserved for black belts? Or are you in both?
