Low Carb, High Protein Diet? Help!?

For the past 3 weeks i had been at a plateu and was staying at 122 lbs despite the fact that i was working out 6days a week, and eating healthy. So this week i started a low carb, high protein diet.

I'm consuming 146g of protein, 61g of fat, amd 73 carbs. I have heard that low carb diets are bad because you lose muscle. My goal is to lose lbs of fat and get lean. After i los the excess weight i want to focus on putting on muscle. Am i on track?

Your body will not be able to use that much protein for muscle building, it is going to break down what it doesn't need and turn it into energy - which will then be stored as fat if not used.

More protein does not necessarily mean more muscle or healthier eating. Carbohydrates should be your primary energy source for your workouts. 146g of protein is a massive amount for someone your weight, you'd be better off in the 100g range. A good rule of thumb is 1.5-2g per kilogram of body weight - not per pounds, as many people suggest. The higher end of that range would apply to someone who is lifting regularly and working out very hard. And the protein needs to be part of a balanced diet, one which includes carbohydrates.

You are probably not eating enough overall to build any muscle right now given those food intake levels.

You are doing the diet incorrectly. A low carb diet is HIGH FAT and moderate protein. Too much protein will convert into sugar and get stored as fat....

Ignore anyone who tells you that carbs need to be your major source of energy for workouts. They're clueless. You need to go as low carb as possible to lose weight but up the fats. They will keep you full and help you burn fat.

Google low carb high fat diet to get a better understanding.

protein diets are bad because they are stupid (unless you want to bulk up), eating lots of protein activates some growth hormones which make the body hold on to the calories giving the opposite effect. Just eat lots of low glycemic load carbs, those just pass straight through
