My dog has neck pain when turning head.?
I have a 4 year old boxer. He is healthy, active and happy most of the time. However, this morning he is having a lot of pain when he looks to the left. He can hold his head to the right or straight, but any movement to the left produces a yelp. It hurts him when he tries to lay down or stand up. What are some possible problems as well as solutions (besides the obvious take him to the vet)?

Massage, ice and heat can help. There are a host of things that could cause this. My dog has a disease that causes his muscles and nerves to deteriorate and he gets lots of things like that. A very experienced dog acupuncturist may be the best option to helping. Go to your closest vet school and consult with the experts there -- they are usually non-profit and great people. I have a Pet Pain Relief page on my site that you might find useful that discusses this at length. Hope he's OK. Kisses, Treateater.com.

There are no solutions except take him to the vet - one who does chiro or acupuncture. One of my greyhounds had a neck problem that had him practically screaming in pain and the vet had him pain-free in no time. Treatments, whichever one he'd need, aren't expensive.
