Why was the British Empire more successful than the Spanish Empire?

The Spanish Empire controlled so much more land and found so much silver in the Americas. When were the turning points?

To the answer above I will add that the Spanish din't just exploited the resources wrongly, they also sold the resources as they came, without manufacturing them first, and then had to buy the manufactured goods from foreign countries. It's like cutting down a tree and then buying wood planks, poor planification, they actually thought that the mines would keep producing forever

Mainly, because British colonies were built to support trade, and helped maintain the economic growth of the empire. The Spanish empire was largely a looting empire, ripping what wealth it could from its colonies and shipping the proceeds back to Europe. The British also used their colonies as a population control valve, encouraging people of all classes to go to the Americas, or other colonial holdings. The Spanish concentrated on sending soldiers seeking their fortunes, or those of sufficiently high social class to serve as overseers and lords to the new holdings. This led to the British colonies prospering as the immigrants helped build colonies with an eye to trade with the home islands.

The Spanish gained immense wealth quickly, but largely wasted that wealth on wars and political intrigue in Europe. English holdings in the Americas did not provide the quick riches that the Spanish holdings did, but they laid the groundwork for better exploitation of the total resources of those colonies, from timber to tobacco to mineral wealth.

The Spanish didn't have more land not even close

The British empire was most successful ever and there will probably never be a bigger empire in future
