Looking for some South African recipes?
Hi. I've got interested in South Africa and I was just wondering what a typical South African meal would be?
What are popular meats over there and how are they seasoned & cooked, what seasoning is used and how do you I make it.
I'd like to make a South African meal sometime but haven't got a clue where to start.
I'm interested in savory South African cooking recipes.
I live in the UK so can only get ingredients available here in the UK.
Thanks.

I had a girlfriend from Zambia - I helped her prepare some great meals.
Biltong ( dried meat for chewing) and Boerwurst ( spicy sausage) and Springbok (small deer) were liked.
Essential ingredient: pup (or miel-miel - (ground corn) a white flour boiled with water and stirred constantly till thick ( like porridge).
Ask a butcher for beef bones with plenty of meat attached - cook for at least 2 hour in large pot with crushed garlic /ginger and make a thick rich gravy with juices.
Savoy cabbage shredded with added strips of bacon.
Roasted butternut squash chunks ( take care cutting the skin off)
If you want it authentic eat with fingers - make a ball of pup and use it to mop up gravy.
PS the fried caterpillars ( 3 inches long black/yellow stripes) are OK but the skin is flaky and sticks between the teeth.
I know there is an African Butcher in Hull and a good supplier in Lincoln ( near Minster) so I assume most big cities have one.
