No of course not, considering they have a population of around 30000 to England's 50 000 000, they never really stood a chance. I think that having to play these games for teams like England is a pointless exercise and that a prequalification tournament between San Marino, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Faroe Islands, Andorra and Scotland should be put in place. All these matches do for bigger teams is create the risk of some players getting injured, so in my opinion we don't need them. Although I do think it is good for some of these small teams to get to play on a high international stage, how are they going to improve going into every single game knowing they will get hammered, therefore putting 10 men behind the ball and frustrating the opposition?

As Geoff said, with a population of 36k San Marino just doesn't have the talent pool to compete against the likes of England.
The same goes for Montenegro tomorrow night, pop. 600+k
These smaller sides should be in their own bracket , assuring that some of them make it to the WC in order to reap the same benefits that the powerhouses get. Ie, Qualifiers cost money to play, WC matches earn money when played.
