2000 lincoln ls v8 trouble, starting and misleading mpg.?
I have 2000 lincoln ls, and recently it's been having troubles starting. It starts without any hesitation in the morning or 5 minutes right after I turn it off. Anytime after that it takes at least 2 tries to start. It's a pain making all that noise in public trying to turn it on. Also, my mpg is misleading it says a certain miles left till empty then a mile later it drops like 5 miles and never comes back.It has a check engine light on and I had it checked turns out its a rear o2 sensor, but the only thing rear o2 sensors are good for are for checking the cat. Could it be something else or just the o2 sensor?

The MPG is averaged over fuel use of the last 10 tankfuls, unless you RESET it when filling. My LS averages about 22.5......but has gotten as much as 33 (very doubtful).......and the most I've ever gotten range-wise was "488 Miles to EMPTY". AS for your hot start problem, try partially depressing the throttle while cranking. This will allow air to enter the throttle body and cylinders...slighlty leaning what appears to be a slight rich condition when hot.........and the o2 sensor problem could be playing into that if it's reading lean and richinening the fuel mixture......it's costing you some MPG as well if it's richening the air/fuel mixture.

Most times many sensors are ignored until after warm up.
Clean the MAF? (if there is one)
