If I bike everyday starting this June, should I be able to ride 2 miles to and from school by late August?
I'm in shitty shape right now, but I've got time to work on that (part of which would be the bike riding, of course). I haven't ridden one in years, but it seems like a great idea, especially compared to a car in terms of environmental issues. Also, it's cost efficient. Back to the original question, what do you think? I think that if I put enough work in I can. Also, how long do you have to ride before you get used to the butt soreness? You guys are my only hope (not really, but hey, you can probably help).

Several years ago, I was GROSSLY overweight, smoked THREE packs of cigarettes a day & could ride more than 2 miles. You should be able to do it NOW! Two miles is nothing.
Oh, yeah... I also have a gimpy back & arthritic knees.
Don't try to "race" through the 2 miles. Just set a nice pace you know you can handle. Two miles will pass quickly.

Yea, even my old fat lady can do that without training after smoking half a pack. She even did 10 miles last summer without training except for the couple of miles to and from work. I recon that if you start riding you will be able to ride two miles the first day, maybe not comfortably. By August you could be riding 20 miles on the weekends as well. In 2014 you will ride 50 miles easy and by 2015 your first century.
I never got butt soreness myself, and neither the old crone and she never uses padded shorts.

If you slowly work up your endurance to riding, along with some healthy eating (Assuming one reason you're in poor shape is diet, and telling you to go straight to a healthy diet probably wont work trust me) I believe so. For the first let's say two weeks ride as much as you can handle. When it starts to become easy for you, up how much you ride. If you ride every day, or even 3 times a week, you should be able to ride 2 miles to school in no time. :)

nicely, first of all, you're no longer likely to lose lots using a bike standard for below a mile or 2. i bypass twenty 5 6 days a week and am on a 1200 calorie weight-alleviation plan, and that i lose approximately 4 lbs a week. 10 lbs a week is slightly severe, and on the brink of being risky. What are you able to do? nicely, i do no longer decide to deter you from cycling. it is so lots extra effective on the joints than working or walking. attempt to place some extra miles in every day. 5-6. Thats incredibly to no longer lots while you're no longer likely up steep inclines. You reported some thing approximately to no longer show you how to already know to no longer consume "crap". nicely, are you eating "crap"? while you're, you won't decide to consume as lots. i'm no longer asserting end eating it thoroughly, basically consume it carefully. attempt to maintain song of ways lots you consume. do you already know what share energy you take up? i could attempt to maintain it between 1200-and 15 hundred an afternoon. nicely, solid luck, and that i'm hoping yo discover fulfillment.

You should be able to ride 2 miles in a week. Even at a slow 6 mph it wont take longer then 20 min.

Two miles is NO distance. You should be able to get on and ride that right now.... Maybe not fast, but complete it you should. If you cannot, you should see your Md. To get clear nance first.
