How do I help my partner to feel useful while he's recovering?
My partner is recovering from Guillain–Barré syndrome ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guillain%E2%80%93Barr... ) which has him feeling very useless. He still needs a wheelchair to get around and his coordination is pretty bad. He's recovering pretty fast compared to most people who come down with it, mostly because he's so young, but to him it's not fast enough. He feels pretty useless and I just want to make him feel better. He normally, draws to make himself feel better, but his coordination is so bad that this isn't a good option.

Hello! There is room for much creativity here, and your partner is a creative person.
Here are some random suggestions - I know that the two of you will come up with many more, and much better! (1) Get a microphone or digital recorder. Begin making an autobiographical recording of the entire experience. It can later become a book or an article or a blog that will help others through this type of recovery. Very valuable!
(2) Find a chat room about this syndrome, and have your partner dictate answers to people's questions while you type them.
(3) Begin a new class that is all audio. Some people like to learn languages. Some people like The Great Courses.com (link below)
(4) Have him dictate to you a business plan for a new business. Or a script for a new movie.
You will also find ego boosting MP3s from Sunrise Guided Visualizations, available on Amazon. He will find one that changes his feelings for the better! How good of you to help him!
