How do baby quail and chickens survive in the wild without heat lamps?amps?
I know most people use a heat lamp until quail and chickens are fully feathered but how do they survive in the wild? Once they are over that obstacle do they get along with others of their breed or will they fight?

Young birds like chickens and quail that forage for food shortly after hatching are covered in down which keeps them warm. They also stay close to their mother. In the nest they burrow into the hen's feathers to share her warmth. If you had a hen in with the little chicks you would not need a heat lamp but this is impractical.

In the wild they rely on their mother for warmth. The mortality rate is much higher in the wild though. Like all other animals they do fight once in a while.
