How to troubleshoot printer problems?

If you don't know the basics already, it's going to be hard to learn it in a night. You need to know cable types & connections. If it has poor print, it likely needs a new toner cartridge or ink (depending on the printer). If it's jamming, make sure the paper is loaded correctly & not too full. If there are any error lights lit or flashing or error messages, troubleshoot for the indicated problem.

Always be nice to the caller, never be impatient or rude. If problem is too complex or hard to understand, escalate to next help desk level. Make sure you understand the problem, ask questions to clarify as needed. You need to be able to type quickly & accurately with proper grammer. Help desk usually includes more than just printers.
