How to lose 1.5-2 pounds a week?

I'm 228 almost 227 and I want to be 140-150 by next year for prom. I'm 17. I was 240 a month and a half ago but now I'm 228. I would like to know how to lose 1.5-2 pounds a week. I mean I know exercise is a main component to losing weight, but how much should I burn?

When I go to the gym, I use the treadmill and usually burn 700-900 calories, and then I walk most of my way home from the gym which is like 80-100 calories more. I used to be able to go the gym everyday but school has been keeping me busy. But I'll use the treadmill in my home and i'll burn 500-600 calories on it.

Oh yeah and I was losing weight dramatically but it seems like I'm not anymore now. :( Oh yeah and I eat 800-900 calories a day. Sometimes 1000-1100 but most of the time I eat below that. I'm 5' 6 1/2".I also use MyFitnessPal for portion control.

Update:

-If I wanted some form of milk, could I have almond milk? Is that a healthier alternative to milk?

So i shouldn't eat cereal at all? I usually eat Multi-grain cheerios with bananas, strawberries and wild blueberries. I haven't had bread in over a month, until two days ago. I had one slice instead of two each day. Is blue agave nectar ok as a sugar alternative? At school I'll have salads for lunch. I always get the salad with grilled chicken, or no meat at all.

Is a sweet baked potato, with a bunch of veggies and a small amount of meat ok for dinner? That's what i usually eat now. I cut out rice

The best way to lose weight is to just make it a routine and make it fun.

Most people get caught up in the mentality of working out, watching calories, yada-yada. It's only a part of the equation. The bigger part you rarely hear about is that you need to make it fun. If you're not sure what physical activity is best for you then, try out different things until you hit it. It should be something cardio that builds stamina and endurance (swimming, cycling, walking, jogging, jazzercise, etc.)

You're goal is realistic but it demands discipline, you need to make it a lifestyle and you must be greatly focused on this goal, bordering fanaticism. If you want a more precise diet plan, here's a good one that is both easy to accomplish but requires much discipline and focus. Stay away from the following ingredients until you've reached your goal:

*Sugar- anything sweetened, even artificial sweetener, is out. Artificial sweeteners raise insulin which is a precursor to fat storage, as do sugars do as well. Removing these items will help promote your system not storing fat as well as help burn your excess supplies.

    * Red meat, pork and any of it's by products are out. Yes, cheese, milk, yogurt, sour cream, is included. No dairy! Heavy omega 6's are just generally a bad idea. If there's an undiagnosed inflammation in your intestines (far more common than you think), it will only aggravate your situation. Making losing weight more difficult.

    * Grains- Many people automatically lose massive weight just by removing grains, especially in cases of extreme obesity. Won't go into the mechanics of it, it just works. Grains are rice, wheat, oatmeal, barley, corn, etc. This will also mean cutting out bread, tortillas, dough, pasta, etc.

So what should you consume? Fruits, vegetables, nuts, chicken, fish. Basically healthy home cooked meals. And to drink? Water. If you have to have flavored water, make it yourself. I will sometimes blend or squeeze fruits for a water concoction and sweeten it with liquid stevia. Stevia is a plant extract sold in natural food markets. It is highly concentrated, over a 100 x's sweeter than sugar. A couple of drops into a glass of water will normally suffice.

Almond milk is not a dairy. It is derived by soaking almonds. Typically, multi-grains are considered good. I would recommend avoiding them during this period. Here's the thing, you are going to have cravings, I'm not talking about just food hunger. Your desire to have grains and sugar is going to spike like you wouldn't believe. It has to do with the balance of bacteria in the gut (it's called the flora, we all have it and it millions of organisms and typically having thousands of different variety surviving in our intestines) and the cravings they have to survive which stimulate a chemical reaction which ultimately leads to us having cravings. It's really a phenomenal survival quality bacteria have.

A good concoction I designed is having mushed bananas as base, with almond milk and some stevia. This sorta makes an oatmeal like creation. And then add whatever you want, like blueberries, nuts, raisins, etc.

I don't suggest too much salads. Greens are good, but they don't feed your system. People usually feels drained when they try to survive on vegetables and greens. Believe it or not, up your fruits. I know they contain sugar, but it's a different form of sugar and they are balance with the necessary enzymes which prevents your system from going into fat storage. Bananas, dates, raisins, nuts, are great snacks for on the go and keeping your energy constant.

Remember I said cravings? You will crave potatoes! They are high in starch, which tends to feed that carbohydrate desire. Potatoes are ok, however, think moderation. In the world of healthy food they are like a cheeseburger. Heavily loaded and if you don't burn it, it goes to storage. Potatoes are actually really good for cardio workouts. It replaces the other recommendations like rices and pasta for a heavy carbo load that is typically recommended as healthy alternative.

I have done all this and it worked out okay, so long as balanced myself. Worked out routinely and had heavy sugar/carbo load (as described above) for high activity times. If you really want to do something unique that gives results like nothing else I've seen then you can do what I'm doing now. However, I recommend a regimen of the above plan for at least two months prior. A detoxing of the body is required which the above plan will do a few weeks into it.

Source(s): What am I doing now? I went completely raw. Raw vegan to be exact. That is fruits, vegetables, nuts, and water. In the last 5 weeks I've lost almost 20 lbs. 20LBS!!!! The equation is absolutely insane. I eat whenever I feel hungry, I never deny myself. I never feel drained. And the weight is just melting off. Some nuts, some vegetables, the seldom greens and almost all fruit and over a gallon of water daily. It's so simple it's just stupid. And it works!!! But like I said, detoxing is a problem. Most people experience some extreme detox sometime in the first month. I haven't but, I weened off of junk food for months prior to plunging into this. I don't plan to ever go back, I FEEL SO GREAT! Email me if you have further questions.

Sounds like you're doing a good job already!

Whenever I need to remove a few stubborn pounds from my waist area, I try to drink a lot more water (massive gulp every 15 minutes) and cut sodium out of my diet. If I'm serious about it I will cut out man-made foods and eat mostly fresh colorful veggies. Good luck :)

Low-fat milk should be okay, but you should experiment and record results to see what works for your body. Alternate weekly, maybe? Cereal isn't bad if you don't have time to prep or cook. Fruit has a lot of sugar so you want to treat it like candy (sweet snack, dessert). Two courses of vegetables daily isn't going to give you enough sustained energy for you to meet your goals. You would benefit a lot from eating more fresh vegetables daily. That's vegetables - you just have to eat more to stay fed. You want to avoid starches, staple foods such as potato, corn, rice, wheat because chemically they are just chains of sugar. Meat is good in moderation. I do enjoy crap-quality ground beef and potatoes once in a while, maybe after a demanding swim.

To stay lean and energized I stick to an "AM-PM" workout schedule - heavy-weight work in the morning, cardio in the evening.
