I need serious asvab help, may someone help me?
OK I'm a senior in high school with a GPA of 3.8 I'm very good with math, English is OK I mean decent, I have wanted to join the military since early childhood, at the recruiting office I scored an 87 on the practice asvab, I went to meps on Friday and did horrible! I got a 27 what the hell! What really messed me up was word knowledge, I was also very nervous if that matters? I have 1 month to retest but I might hold of for two months for studying. U have two books, asvab for dummies and asvab basic training for the afqt. What is the best way to study? I need help! How do I study for word knowledge the words I'm studying from the book weren't on the test I took, so what words do I study? Sorry for the multiple long questions I just need to conquer this test.

what you need to do is get off your ******* high horse and study
grab "ASVAB for Dummies" it's the best book on the market, and as for your "wonderful score" on the practice test, I got nearly a perfect score on the practice test, I still spent a month studying for the ASVAB
you need to learn how to answer the questions within the time limit without panicking
if you need help with a particular problem shoot me an email, but get your act together

Test taking is an art. Here are the instructions for taking any standardized test (both of my sons scored 99 on the ASVAB by doing this):
First, go through all of the questions in a section quickly and answer ONLY those questions for which you immediately and certainly know the correct answer. Skip any question that does not meet that criteria.
Second, go through the section a second time and answer any question for which it is a choice of two possible answers. Take a few moments to make your best stab at it, but do not linger or obsess.
Third, NOW you go after the genuine stumpers with whatever time you have remaining.
You have ensured that you answered all of the questions for which you knew the answer immediately and you have taken a good stab at the 50-50 questions while leaving yourself enough time to play with the puzzlers. Too many people get hung up early on a mind-bender and leave questions they could have answered correctly unanswered.
Good luck!

Just go to the library and checkout some William Faulkner (American Nobel prize winning author) books...they are very difficult to read due to complexly constructed paragraphs and high level vocabulary....read them at least a little bit everyday for a month...I guarantee you'll do much better after that....with scoring a 27 you must have screwed the pooch on the math portion too so I suggest you brush up on basic algebra and geometry and most likely fractions too...better luck next time.

You don't look like you have problems with words,so just start reading.
Try some older books from John Jakes, Leon Uris, Piers Anthony, Herman Wolk and learn what the words mean in context.
I'd mention trying some from w. Spencer Churchill, but you don't need to learn that much English.

ASVAB for Dummies helped me alot. it takes you through all the sections of the test and teaches you every concept step by step.....even though u need help in the WK it wont hurt to brush up on the other sections.

no one can give you a list of words to study, if a list existed, that would be fraud and cheating
