Feminists, what do you think of the 'equity' feminists such as Christina Hoff Sommer?
I think her causes are more reasonable than the usual radical feminist beliefs..
@Thomas: Reason and logic are not for radicals like you..
I love her views because she still embraces masculinity and femininity, encourages corporation between genders instead of we competing against each other and she uses plenty of reliable scientific sources in her arguments as well.

Personally, I feel kind of bad for her for allowing heterosexual men to brainwash her into believing they are oppressed. lolololol! I can sorta relate as I felt bad for them for awhile myself, until I saw the light. She needs to wake up!

The feminist reaction to her as well as people like Dr. Farrell and Erin Pizzey shows the true nature of feminism, as does the name equity feminist. If mainstream feminism was really about the equality it claims to be, there would be no such thing as equity feminism.
Mainstream feminists claim to embrace equality for everyone including men, yet when feminists like Christina Hoff Sommers actually advocates such equality, she's disavowed. Erin PIzzey who created many domestic violence shelters for women received death threats from feminists simply for stating that men can be victimized too.
Much of what Christina Hoff Sommers has been saying has been falling on def ears, but I think more and more people are beginning to see feminism is not about the equality it says to be and many of the issues are not as feminists claim them to be. As feminism becomes more unpopular and looses support and I think more will begin to take Dr. Sommer's stance, caring about women's issues, but not discriminating against men in the process.

I've never heard of here before reading this question, at least if I did I forgot. She seems like the type of reasonable level headed feminists that I knew existed somewhere this world but are not just not primarily ones on the internet or GS.
Heterosexual brainwashing is someone who uses facts to support a cause they believe in? That's a new one. You are yet another example of the ignorant radical feminist, you really should take notes. Also, I feel bad for your sons if you were to ever have any as you hate their gender, it's certainly gonna be rough for them.

"what's it approximately helping women folk's rights that necessitates feminists' prejudiced comments approximately white men?" because of the fact in accordance to feminists like Anne Wilson Schaef, they're responsible for "inventing" logic and reason by the white male device. nicely, without reason, you will make up each and every form of whacky arguments and not be incorrect. of direction, it is the entire thought. this is the reason feminist responses quite often incorporate derision.

I've never liked the term "feminism," but we're stuck with it as a convention. I much prefer the term "gender egalitarianism," and that's the form of "feminism" that I choose to practice. ("What's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander" about sums up "gender egalitarianism.") I've never heard of this individual to whom you refer, and I haven't heard of "equity feminism," either.
I grew up during a period when women were not hired because it allegedly wasn't safe for them to be out after dark (and why was it allegedly "unsafe"?--because of men!) and because they might possibly be required to pick up, say, a 25 pound box in the course of their job (as if hefting children and their stuff around--easily over 25 pounds--doesn't count). On top of that, employers wouldn't hire women because they figured that women would just get married, have babies, and quit their jobs, anyway. But then they'd figure that a woman was a weirdo if she didn't want to get married, have babies, and quit her job, so they wouldn't hire her for being a weirdo.
Can you see why some women from that era would get frustrated and try to change the rules?
The thing is this about people, though: MOST people don't like to think independently. They like to know what is the proper thing to do and how they "should" behave. Then they get mad if people--such as feminists--tell them that the rules are unfair (this refers to both men and women). Most feminists aren't radical at all, but it seems that way to those who are into traditionalism and rule-following.
One of the other answerers made a reference to a quote about college guys allegedly binge-drinking because they can't hold doors open for women any more. Whoever made up that quote is totally clueless, because frats exert a tremendous amount of peer pressure on their members to behave in a rowdy manner, such as drinking until one is sick (or maybe even dead?), and it has NOTHING to do with the rules changing in mid-stream and not knowing how to treat a woman! But the sort of guy who chooses to join a frat is typically someone who is all for rules and conventionality, so OF COURSE he'd be likely to blame feminists for all of his problems.
I am so sick of this: Men should see women as human beings, not potential sexual conquests, and women should see men as human beings, not as wallets. If this would happen, then we wouldn't need "feminism."

There is no such thing as "equity feminists", its a term created and used exclusively by anti-feminists such as yourself to describe themselves. Its misogyny and conservative values renamed to "feminism", one of the dumber PR fails they've come up with, since conservatives see feminism as a bad word and progressives aren't stupid enough to fall for such obvious conservative trolling. And Christina Hoff Summers is a stinking turd.

gender politics is so f*cking pointless lol.
equal money invested in health care. (private groups can do w/e the f*ck they want).
men not always assumed the aggressor by police.
equal child custody.
equal maternity/paternity leave so women arent discriminated against for jobs.
there's more but i've made a start.

She speaks up for the unfairness against boys in the school system. Therefore, feminists hate her because they only want people to speak up for women.

I saw her lecture once. She said men binge drink at college because they don't know whether to hold the door open for women anymore. That stuck out for me.
She's just a very conservative women who takes a controversial/"make conservative men feel good because a woman said it "stance to sell books. She's like Ann Coulter, but less successful.

I wish more feminists were like her.
