I need your help my dog has been itching so bad?

For awhile now it is to the point she is chewing away her hair. I tried flea baths, regular baths and giving her flea meds, and used old motor oil. The motor oil seemed to work but only temporary just like the rest. I was just wondering if anyone has any other ideas on how to cure this. I know i should probably take her to the vet we are on a fix income and can not afford at right at the moment. I mean she is not as bad as she used to be since i done all the other stuff but she still has been

itching really bad. Her hair did start to grow back. She still needs some kind of relief!. So please if you have any ideas please let me know.

I can not give her away or put her down my son is way way to attached. She is like a sister to him! We had her since our son was like 4.

Thank you.

Update:

she is a mixed breed. I got her from the pound when she was a pup. So i am not sure what she is mixed with. Maybe lab? she is up to our knees.

Update 2:

. I will look into the food allergy thing. thanks for your help. Just never thought of the food allergy thing because she never had that reaction to the food we bought before.

No need to put your dog down.

For any skin issues I recommend an inexpensive and effective old time remedy: a powder called 'Flowers of Sulfur' (also known as 'brimstone' or 'sublime sulfur').

This substance has been used for thousands of years to cure all kinds of skin ailments including fungal and bacterial infections and if there is itching, it will stop it very quickly. Google it to learn more about its healing properties.

Even vets have forgotten about this wonderful and inexpensive remedy but fortunately you can still purchase it at your local pharmacy for very little money. You can also buy it online at http://www.pennherb.com/search?mp=s&se=Flowers+of+...

Flowers of sulfur is safe to apply to your pet's skin but take care not to inhale sulfur powder.

You can dust this powder on your dog's skin OR mix it with an oil to rub on the skin.

The dusting can easily be accomplished if you use a powdered sugar duster or an empty talcum powder bottle. Separate the hair as you go around dusting to expose the skin until you have covered it.

Alternatively, mix 2 tablespoons of flower of sulfur with 1 cup of Jojoba oil and put it in a bottle. Always shake to mix well before applying to the skin as it tends to separate. You do not need to wear gloves as it is not toxic to humans either.

The two most common allergies of dogs are inhalant allergies, to things like dust and pollens, and flea bite allergies.

Sometimes, pollen allergies can be helped a lot by giving the dog Benadryl. The dose for dogs goes by weight and can be found at the Benadryl website. Dogs get the Children's Benadryl.

Flea bite allergies can be set off into full blown crazy-making itching and scratching by the bite of just one flea. Dogs chew their hair off, generally starting on the back near the tail, and even bite themselves raw. Dogs are usually given steroids for this. You'll need to keep the dog flea free as well as treat the yard and home. Avon Skin So Soft can help to relieve the itching, as can Alpha-Keri oil. You can flea shampoo your dog once a week. Don't worry about dry skin now. You can add fish oil to the dog's daily food as that may help, also but it will be a couple of months before you see results.

Often, dogs are allergic to more than one thing. A dog can be allergic to pollen and flea bites and some foods, too. Clearing up a flea allergy can sometimes help the others to subside also.

    What breed is she?

More than likely, it's a food allergy, so change her to something all-natural. But don't be taken in by brands such as Benefil, which tries to promote itself as all-natural, when it's not.

My Siberian Husky does well on Dick Van Patten's dog food. Look for it in Pet Smart.

For the skin issue already there, mix up some shampoo with oatmeal. Very soothing to a dog's skin.

Most likely an allergy most likely food. and if you can't afford a higher quality food then you can't afford a dog. To be honest if you can't afford a vet you should really give her to somebody that can. She doesn't deserve to be sick or itchy all the time, just because your son is attached. You'd be doing it for the good of the dog!

If she was my dog, I'd take her to the vet.
