How do we fix this country's texting while driving problem?

Should we take the GOP approach and encourage more texting while driving and even making it mandatory in some cities?

Update:

Not really looking for solutions, just making a point. Thanks.

Update 2:

Name one politician or piece of legislation trying to ban all guns. You can't, because they don't exist.

They're really seeking to put into effect it in Texas. In case you are caught texting and even speakme on the phone whilst in a institution zone, you'll get a ticket for it. They declare that we've too many accidents happening within the state as a result of men and women texting and not paying concentration to the street.

I have texting capability on my phone. I also have hands free blue tooth as a factory feature built into my vehicle. It would be nice if my phone had voice recognition and text to voice conversion. Lacking that, I have no reason to text. If I want to make a call, I am hands free and can leave voice mail. I do not respond to incoming text. That can wait until I stop. If someone wants to talk to me,, blue tooth works fine.

Personally, when I'm the passenger and see someone being a reckless jerk I'm more than happy to roll the widow down for some good old fashion public shaming.

I have no way of knowing if it works, but so far everyone I've done it to turns beet-red and hangs their head with shame, so I'm hopeful.

No we need to take the Liberal approach and ban all cell phones and cars. Or make everyone take a background check to see if they have ever sent a text while driving

Huge difference between texting while driving and exercising one's constitutional right to bear arms. This is not even close to a good analogy.

Put an electronic device in cars that will automatically shut off fuel to the engine when texting is done, forcing people to pull over.

Improve voice recognition, and use that to allow people to text hands free while driving.
